Optrafair 2016: Craig and Peter deliver lecture at NEC Arena
Our optometrists Craig McArthur and Peter Ivins of Peter Ivins Eye Care Bearsden, Glasgow delivered a lecture updating the UK’s optometrists and opticians on the latest advancements in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) at this year’s Optrafair 2016 optometric conference at Birmingham’s NEC Arena.
Craig and Peter have delivered lectures on Optrafair’s main stage in each of the last 5 years. The duo are considered industry experts in OCT, a technique that allows high definition 3D imaging of the back of the eye. This ability to look through the eye as well as into the eye allows us diagnose conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration at much early stages in the disease and thus offer earlier treatments and better outcomes. The technique is offered as part of Peter Ivins Eye Care’s Eye Care for Life programmes. The aim of Eye Care for Life is to supplement the 2 yearly NHS eye examination with the latest technology available world wide and more regular eye examinations to ensure the earliest diagnosis of eye problems.
Asim Sheikh, our third optometrist, who practices part-time at Peter Ivins Eye Care in conjunction with his role a clinical trainer for Carl Zeiss Meditech, delivered a series of ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions teaching practitioners from the UK about the latest diagnostic technology as they tuck into their lunch.
