Craig McArthur delivers lectures to IP Optometrists

Craig McArthur lectures at NES Independent Prescribing Conference, Stirling

Our optometrist Craig McArthur was recently invited to speak at the Independent Prescribing Optometrist Conference in Stirling University organised by NES Scotland, the education and training body for NHS Scotland.

Around 120 of Scotland’s IP optometrists attended the conference with lectures from some of the country’s leading ophthalmologists and optometrists. Craig gave a series of lectures aimed improving the delegates knowledge of specialists imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and such techniques can be used to detect and diagnose conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration at the earliest possible stage.

Peter Ivins Eye Care is considered an industry leader for clinical imaging systems such as OCT. The practice was one of the first early adopters of this exciting technology and has teamed up with Carl Zeiss to ensure the practice has the latest and the best technology available worldwide.  We recently updated our OCT from a Cirrus 4000 HD-OCT to the new top-of-the-range Cirrus 5000 HD-OCT. The practice was awarded The Technology Practice of the Year at the Opticians awards for their work in this area.

The practice was the first in Europe to install the Zeiss Forum system. Forum allows all of our diagnostic equipment from our Zeiss Fundus Camera, Zeiss Visual Field Analyser, Zeiss Cirrus 5000, corneal topographer, photo microscopes etc to be networked together.  This allows for all of your information to be viewed in the one place and produces combined reports that allow us to diagnose and monitor conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma better than anyone else.  Craig is heading out to Munich in June of 2017 as part of the Zeiss Global advisory panel for the Zeiss Forum system.  Optometrists and Ophthalmologists from across the globe will meet to discuss how the software could be further developed to improve patient care.

Craig McArthur lectures at Independent Prescribing course at Glasgow Caledonian University

Our optometrist Craig McArthur was once again invited to lecture at Glasgow Caledonian University as a guest lecturer for the university’s post-graduate diploma course in Independent Prescribing for Optometrists. Craig delivered three master-class workshops to optometrists from across the UK on how optical coherence tomography can be used in the diagnosis of conditions such as keratoconus, retinal detachments, glaucoma and macular degeneration.  Craig McArthur lectures on a variety of subjects including optical coherence tomography, specialist contact lenses, use of technology to diagnose eye disease and many others.
