CONTACT LENS PATIENTS | EMERGENCY MEASURES FOR PETER IVINS EYE CARE | COVID 19
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU AS A PATIENT and WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
We are available for contact lens advice throughout the COVID-19 crisis. The Scottish Government and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board have with immediate effect asked all optical practices to suspend routine eye care appointments and limit practice activity to the delivery of emergency and essential eye care only.
This means that until further notice our practice will operate on reduced hours and will be limited to Emergency appointment and essential eye care only. we expect most of these appointments to be by phone or video Facetime or Skype.
This will include, but not be limited to
- Patients with acute symptoms requiring urgent attention.
- Sudden loss or change in vision.
- Follow up of acute appointments or patients we feel need to be reviewed
- Any contact lens related red eye or provision of contact lens supplies
- Health and other essential workers or personnel requiring attention
- Any other condition the optometrist deems necessary needs to be seen
We will be expected to triage patients in advance to ensure that they do not have any symptoms of COVID 19, in which case you will be given instructions on what to do next.
Routine appointments will be postponed with immediate effect, but will be provided for at a later, post pandemic stage, without being detrimental to your vision.
OTHER NECESSARY SUPPLIES
Routine provision of contact lenses, eye drops and repair of broken or replacement glasses may still be available on a limited basis. Payments will be made via phone with products either posted or collected via door drop-off.
The practice will operate a locked door policy meaning you must telephone to book a call with either Craig or myself before attending the practice.
If you pay for your contact lenses via direct debit we have ordered supplies for March and April. From May, where available, we have arranged for your supply to be shipped directly to your address. This is not possible for all types of contact lens however.
If you buy contact lenses as required you can use our online ordering system to place orders and make payments: https://www.peterivins.co.uk/order-contact-lenses/
HOW WILL THIS WORK FOR OUR CONTACT LENS PATIENTS
We are fortunate in that due to our practice technology we are able to access your clinical records and images remotely. So in addition to our emergency services at the practice we will:
- Continue to offer a 7 day helpline for any eye care or contact lens related concerns or questions you may have during this period.
- Offer virtual consultations using either telephone, FaceTime or Skype if you have access
- If during our telephone or video triaging we deem you to require an examination in person you will be allocated a priority appointment.
- Continuity of supply of product by post or closed door collection
ATTENDING FOR AN EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT
You should attend the practice alone (or with a carer) and we will be operating a social distancing appointment system to minimise the number of people in the practice at any one time to one person. Staff will be wearing personal protective equipment, so do not be alarmed by this sight. Please note, if we feel it is in your best interests to be seen elsewhere we will direct you to that facility.
These are very strange times but please be assured we are doing our best to look after your eyecare health. Craig and I will also as time permits be reviewing all your records and we will contact you if we feel we need to see you for any reason.
On resumption of our normal service we will quickly catch up with all routine appointments.
We will be available through all of this period so if you have any concerns please feel free to contact us:
