Essilor Stellest – The myopia toolkit grows

Essilor Stellest - what do they look like? Our myopia management expert Craig McArthur commented: “Stellest is another very exciting addition to our myopia management toolbox. We now have two spectacle lens options available to us with Hoya MiYOSMART and now Essilor Stellest: with a third option coming to the UK market shortly.”

“Stellest and MiYOSMART offer us two excellent options, firstly in families not quite ready for contact lenses (such as MiSight or Menicon Bloom), the child can be fitted with spectacles that will not only allow beautiful clear vision for school and play but will also slow the progression of myopia by around 60%.”

“Secondly, Stellest and MiYOSMART can also be used by children wearing contact lenses as their primary myopia management treatment. Stellest lenses can be used when the child is taking a break from contact lens wear in the evening or at the weekend. This ensures constant correction of myopia and constant myopia control to slow the progression of the child’s myopia. If we can achieve 100% of the child’s day with a myopia management corrective lens whether contact lens or spectacle, we can reduce the likelihood that the child’s myopia will worsen significantly.”

Essilor Stellest – What do the trials say?

Essilor Stellest available at Peter Ivins Eye Care - 2 out of 3 children who wore Stellest lenses did not need a prescription change after the first year

“The two-year clinical trial showed that children wearing Stellest spectacle lenses for at least 12 hours per day, saved nearly one diopter of myopia progression when compared to children wearing regular single vision spectacles. Other key findings from the trial include:

  • After the first year, the eye growth of 9 out of 10 children wearing Essilor Stellest lenses was similar or slower than non-myopic children.
  • 2 out of 3 children who wore Essilor Stellest lenses did not need a prescription change after the first year.
  • 100% of children wearing Essilor Stellest lenses had clear vision
  • 100% of children adapted to their new lenses within a week
  • 91% of children fully adapted within three days.
  • and 94% of children felt comfortable with Essilor Stellest lenses, demonstrating that Essilor Stellest lenses were comfortable, and easy to adapt for children.
