Peter Ivins Eye Care: First in Scotland to Offer MyDay® MiSight® 1 day (Early Access, 2025)

MyDay® MiSight® 1 day

A new chapter in children’s myopia management—delivered first in Scotland. MyDay® MiSight® 1 day contact lenses.

Childhood myopia (short‑sightedness) is no longer something we “just correct” with stronger glasses each year. It’s increasingly understood as a condition that can progress during childhood as the eye grows—and that progression matters because higher levels of myopia are associated with greater lifetime eye‑health risks.

At Peter Ivins Eye Care, we’ve built our reputation on doing more than routine eye tests. We invest early in the tools, training, and clinical systems needed to provide world‑class preventative eye care—especially for children. That’s why we’re proud to share a major milestone for families in Scotland:

In late 2025, our clinic was granted early access to the new MyDay® MiSight® 1 day lens—and we became the first practice in Scotland to begin offering it to suitable children as part of our myopia management clinic.

This early access follows a long history of “firsts” for our practice, including being the first dedicated myopia management clinic in Scotland in 2013, the first to introduce MiSight® 1 day in 2018 and first practice in Scotland to install the Oculus Myopia Master for axial length measurement and tracking (installed April 2021).

Why does early access matter?

When a child’s myopia is progressing, time matters. The earlier we can begin an evidence‑based management plan—tailored to the child’s age, prescription, lifestyle and progression pattern—the more opportunity we have to reduce the rate of change over the key growth years.

Early access programmes exist for a simple reason: some clinics have the expertise, monitoring systems and clinical governance to introduce innovations carefully, with appropriate patient selection and follow-up. At Peter Ivins Eye Care, myopia management has been a core clinical focus since we began fitting myopic children with specialist off‑label contact lens designs in 2010 (practice history) and formally launched Scotland’s first dedicated Myopia Management Clinic in 2013.

That foundation—combined with advanced tracking such as axial length monitoring—means we are well positioned to introduce new myopia innovations responsibly.

What is MyDay® MiSight® 1 day?

MyDay® MiSight® 1 day is a daily disposable contact lens designed to correct myopia and help slow the progression of myopia using CooperVision’s ActivControl® Technology.

The key “step forward” is that MyDay MiSight combines:

  1. ActivControl® Technology (the myopia-management optical design used in the original MiSight® 1 day family)
    with
  2. A silicone hydrogel daily disposable material from the MyDay lens platform (developed to support comfort and oxygen delivery in daily wear

How does ActivControl® Technology work (in simple terms)?

Parents often ask: “How can a contact lens help slow myopia?”

ActivControl® Technology uses alternating zones that both:

  • give clear vision for distance, and
  • create a “treatment signal” (myopic defocus) intended to help reduce the stimulus for excessive eye growth.

MyDay MiSight uses this same ActivControl® Technology as the original MiSight® 1 day platform.

Why MyDay MiSight is a meaningful addition for children

Most parents are deciding between:

  • glasses,
  • daily disposable contact lenses,
  • Ortho‑K (overnight lenses), or
  • specialist spectacle lens designs.

The truth is: the “best” option is the one your child will actually wear consistently, with good vision and good comfort, over the long term. That’s why real-world factors—comfort, handling, convenience, lifestyle—matter every bit as much as the optics.

MyDay MiSight was created to be a child-friendly daily disposable option within silicone hydrogel material, while still keeping the evidence-based ActivControl design at its core.

Why our clinic was trusted with early access

1) A decade-plus of myopia leadership in Scotland

Peter Ivins Eye Care launched Scotland’s first dedicated myopia management clinic in 2013, and the practice has consistently communicated its role as a leading myopia centre in Scotland.

2) Advanced monitoring: axial length measurement and tracking

In April 2021 we installed Scotland’s first Oculus Myopia Master, allowing objective axial length measurement and trend tracking over time—crucial for high-quality myopia management.

3) Craig McArthur’s role as a myopia expert and educator

Craig McArthur is considered a myopia expert and key opinion leader within the UK Optometric world. He is a frequent contributor to Optometry Today’s multi-part myopia guide as part of an expert panel—reflecting national recognition of his expertise.  Craig is also a recipient of The Optician Awards – Myopia Practitioner of the Year award.

Craig’s has been invited to speak at global events (including CooperVision’s own professional education events) on the topic of myopia over the last decade.

It’s this combination—clinical systems, measurement capability, and professional leadership—that supports why our clinic is often chosen for early access to innovation.

Who might MyDay MiSight suit best?

Every child is different, but MyDay MiSight may be particularly attractive for:

  • Active children who dislike glasses for sport or activities (daily lenses can be a lifestyle enabler).
  • Families who value convenience—daily disposable routine with no cleaning.
  • Children beginning contact lenses where child-friendly handling and a structured fitting and aftercare programme can support success

(Clinical suitability is always confirmed in the myopia management exam.)

Our approach: Myopia management is a plan, not a product

We love innovation—but we’re even more committed to outcomes. That’s why we never frame myopia care as “one lens fixes all.” Instead, we assess and personalise.

A strong myopia management plan typically includes:

  1. Accurate refraction and visual assessment
  2. Risk profiling and lifestyle guidance (near work habits, outdoor time, breaks)
  3. Optical treatment selection (soft lenses like MyDay MiSight, Ortho‑K, or myopia spectacles)
  4. Objective monitoring (including axial length tracking where used)
  5. Regular aftercare and optimisation—because the best treatment is the one your child will actually wear consistently.

This is why families trust our clinic: we combine modern innovation with the fundamentals of careful measurement, follow-up and clinical judgement.

A familiar pattern: first with the tools that matter

Being first in Scotland with MyDay MiSight (early access) fits a well‑established pattern at Peter Ivins Eye Care. Our practice has repeatedly introduced advanced myopia management technologies earlier than most—supported by expertise, training, and a commitment to clinical leadership. That same commitment was reflected in:

  • launching Scotland’s first myopia clinic (2013)
  • installing Scotland’s first Oculus Myopia Master (2021)
  • and contributing to national and international professional education on myopia management.

Interested in MyDay MiSight for your child?

The first step is a dedicated Myopia Management Exam, where we assess:

  • prescription and progression pattern
  • suitability for contact lenses
  • lifestyle factors (sport, screens, school)
  • axial length measurement for tracking and risk management.
