If you’ve been searching for MiYOSMART IQ in Glasgow, MiYOSMART IQ in Scotland, or a specialist myopia clinic near Bearsden, we’re able to help. The newest generation of Hoya’s myopia control spectacle lens is now available at our Myopia Clinic in Bearsden.
Why Myopia Management Matters
Today’s children spend more time on near-work activities such as phones, tablets and studying, and less time outdoors, than previous generations. This shift has been linked to rising rates of childhood myopia.
Short-sightedness itself isn’t the main concern. The bigger issue is that progressive myopia increases the lifetime risk of more serious eye conditions, including retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. Modern myopia management aims to slow that progression, not just correct today’s vision.
Why Choose Peter Ivins Eye Care for Myopia Management
We launched Scotland’s first dedicated Myopia Management Clinic in 2013. Since then we’ve helped hundreds of children and families manage progressive short-sightedness.
The clinic is led by Craig McArthur, Optometrist and Director, who has lectured internationally on myopia management and published in Optician magazine and Optometry Today. You can read more about our expertise.
A full myopia assessment includes a complete eye examination, axial length measurement using our Oculus Myopia Master, optical coherence scans of the retina using our Zeiss Cirrus 5000, and a detailed myopia risk report with a personalised treatment plan.
Many parents searching for the best myopia clinic in Glasgow choose Peter Ivins Eye Care because of our experience, technology and internationally recognised expertise.
What Is MiYOSMART IQ?
MiYOSMART IQ is the latest generation of Hoya’s MiYOSMART lens. It uses the same D.I.M.S. (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) optical design as the original MiYOSMART, which has been shown in clinical studies to reduce myopia progression and axial eye growth compared with standard single vision lenses:
| Clinical Measure | Reduction vs. Standard Lenses |
| Myopia progression | 59% reduction |
| Axial eye growth | 60% reduction |
MiYOSMART IQ builds on that evidence base with further refinements to visual performance and comfort. Published data specific to the IQ version is still emerging; in the meantime, the original MiYOSMART’s results give a strong indication of what to expect, and we’ll update this page as IQ-specific study data is published.
Is My Child Suitable for MiYOSMART IQ?
MiYOSMART IQ may be suitable for children who:
- Are becoming increasingly short-sighted
- Have a parent who is short-sighted
- Are showing rapid prescription changes
- Spend significant time on near-work
- Want a non-contact lens option for myopia management
Every child is different, which is why we recommend a full myopia assessment before starting any treatment. If a spectacle-based option isn’t the right fit, we also offer Essilor Stellest, SightGlass Vision and a range of contact lens-based treatments as part of our wider myopia management programme.

Craig McArthur’s Clinical Opinion
“Having led Scotland’s first dedicated Myopia Management Clinic since 2013, I’ve watched myopia control move from a niche interest to a standard part of good paediatric eye care. MiYOSMART IQ is a welcome addition to that toolkit — it builds on a lens design we already have a great deal of confidence in, refined further based on real-world feedback from clinicians and families. What matters most to me isn’t the marketing around a ‘new’ product, it’s whether the evidence holds up and whether it genuinely helps the child in front of me. That’s why we still assess every case individually, using axial length measurement alongside prescription change, rather than assuming one lens suits every child. I’d encourage any parent who’s noticed their child’s eyesight changing to get a proper assessment sooner rather than later — early intervention consistently gives us more options.” — Craig McArthur, Optometrist and Director
