Peter Ivins Eye Care was one of the first practices in the UK to be able to offer Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses for the treatment of myopia in children. Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses use a novel and innovative Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target lens technology referred to as H.A.L.T. to slow myopia progression. The study into the effectiveness of Stellest lenses showed a reduction of myopia progression of 67% and a reduction in axial eye growth of 60% when compared with the placebo group wearing standard single vision lenses.
Can my child have Essilor Stellest Spectacle lenses?
At Peter Ivins Eye Care the answer is a resounding yes. As key opinion leaders in the UK on the topic of myopia management we were among the first practices in the UK to offer Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses. If your child is showing signs of progressive myopia then Stellest spectacle lenses may be an excellent option for spectacle correction used either alone or in conjunction with contact lenses such as MiSight, Menicon Bloom Day, NaturalVue, Seed 1 Day Pure EDOF or Mylo.
Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses are available of your child’s spectacle prescription is under -10.00 and less than 4.00 dioptres of astigmatism.
How do Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses reduce myopia progression?
The Stellest spectacle lens is the culmination of more than 30 years of academic studies, product design, rigorous research efforts and collaboration between the top research institutes, myopia experts and Essilor’s research development teams.
The Stellest lens provides myopia correction and sharp vision through a single vision clear zone in the centre of the lens. It provides myopia control through the H.A.L.T. technology which consists of a constellation of aspherical lenslets spread on 11 rings. The effect of this design is the slowing of the elongation of the eye in myopic children. The power of each ring has been ingenuously determined to ensure light is focussed in front of the retina following the shape of the eye to achieve consistent myopia slowdown.
Are Essilor Stellest lenses safe for my child?
Essilor Stellest lenses are made from polycarbonate, which is not only highly impact resistant, but also thin, light and offers great UV protection. Meaning Stellest lenses are perfect for active children.
As children are more likely to damage spectacles and spectacles lenses than adults it is essential that frame and lenses selected for children are up to the task, fit well and are highly durable to avoid eye injury.
Children are also more susceptible to the effects of UV radiation on the eye with approximately 80% of lifetimes exposure to UV in the eye occurring before the age of 18. The reason for this is a child’s cornea, crystalline lens and vitreous being incredibly clear and therefore transmits more light into the eye. This coupled with children having larger pupils, which again allow more light to enter the eye, and the fact children play outside more than adults means it is important children’s spectacles lenses offer adequate UV protection to avoid future problems such as cataracts and age-related maculopathy. MiyoSmart lenses offer both impact protection and outstanding UV protection.
