Myopia - short-sightedness
Myopia (short-sightedness) involves the eyeball being too long or too powerful. This results in blurred distance vision, however vision for close objects is clear within a certain range of distances. Please watch the video for more information about myopia.
What is myopia control?
Myopia Control aims to decrease the risk of development of myopia and reduce the progression (worsening) of myopia in young children.

Contact Lens options
MiSight 1 day
Contact Lenses
MiSight™ contact lenses utilise ActivControl™ Technology which results in clear distance, intermediate and near vision while the peripheral treatment zones of the lens creates myopic retinal defocus that has been shown to control the rate of progression of myopia.
Menicon Bloom Day
Menicon Bloom Day has a unique, patented design that slows the growth of the length of the eye. The lens alters the way light enters the eye and affects how images focus on your retina. The growth of the eye is thus restricted, which in turn reduces the amount of myopia a child may develop.
Menicon Bloom Night
Menicon Bloom Night is the first licensed form of overnight corrective contact lenses for myopia management, also referred to as orthokeratology lenses. They help slow the progression of myopia while also correcting your vision while you sleep.
NaturalVue
NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day contact lenses are clinically effective for myopia progression control and are an excellent option in slowing the progression of myopia in children. One of the advantages of NaturalVue lenses in myopia management is the range of available powers.
Seed 1DayPure EDOF
The lens also has three levels of depth of focus using the extended depth of focus (EDOF) technology. This means we can gradually increase the power of the myopia control to allow your child to adapt to the lens. This has proven useful in children that have struggled with other designs of myopia control contact lens.
Orthokeratology
OrthoK lenses correct vision while you sleep. The lens gently changes the shape of the cornea which in turn correct myopia and has been shown to slow the progression of myopia in children.
Mylo
The lens is specifically designed for Myopia Management using the Brien Holden Vision Institute patented Extended Depth of Focus technology. MYLO contact lenses are removed nightly and replaced monthly
Custom-made lenses
In children with complex prescriptions out with the range of other products we have both soft contact lenses and hybrid contact lenses made to measure for your child. These lenses will not only provide clear vision but offer myopia control.
Spectacle lens Options
Hoya MiYOSMART
Peter Ivins Eye Care were amongst the first practices in the UK to offer Hoya MiYOSMART spectacles lenses in the treatment of myopia. Hoya MiYOSMART lenses use a novel and innovative D.I.M.S. lens design (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) to low myopia progression. The study measuring the effectiveness of the Hoya MiYOSMART lens technology showed a 59% reduction in myopia progression and a 60% reduction in axial eye growth (the length of the eyeball) when compared to the placebo group wearing normal single vision distance spectacle lenses.
Essilor Stellest
Peter Ivins Eye Care was one of the first practices in the UK to be able to offer Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses for the treatment of myopia in children. Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses use a novel and innovative Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target lens technology referred to as H.A.L.T. to slow myopia progression. The study into the effectiveness of Stellest lenses showed a reduction of myopia progression of 67% and a reduction in axial eye growth of 60% when compared with the placebo group wearing standard single vision lenses.
